Make visiting the Greenbox Museum of Contemporary Art a priority for your trip to Amsterdam, as there is a vast collection of fabulous Saudi Arabian works to behold.

In Amsterdam, it is not just Dutch history and culture you are able to explore, as the city home to a fantastic array of museums and galleries that tell the story of faraway nations as well.

The Greenbox Museum of Contemporary Art is one such establishment, and for a building that is so small and humble, it has much to offer the curious tourist.

It houses the collections of Aarnout Helb, a Dutchman and Amsterdam citizen who is passionate about the work of visual artists living and working in Saudi Arabia.

Despite its size, the exhibitions to behold within the museum are truly magnificent and you'll be able to browse contemporary paintings that feature a range of techniques and depict various artistic temperaments.

According to the Greenbox Museum website, it is seeking to "turn people's attention away from what is en vogue in many White Cube museums of London and New York to consider for a moment an alternative centre of intelligence and creativity in need of space to express itself".

All of the artists whose work is on display are part of the wider international Saudi Arabian community and visitors to the museum can expect to see pieces from Abdullah Aljoheri, Ayman Yossri, Hala Ali, Maha Malluh and Saddiek Wasill – and many more.

The museum is not just showcasing art from Saudi Arabia, it is also putting together a collection of books for visitors to use, with some titles already available. These include The Unity of Islamic Art from the King Faisal Centre for Research and Islamic Studies, Mahdi Al Jeraibi by Jean-Claude Le Gouic and Saudi Arabia, An Artist's View of the Past by Safeya Binzagr.

Compared to some of the bigger museums in and around Amsterdam, entrance to the Greenbox Museum of Contemporary Art is very reasonable and admission will only set you back €5 (£4.2). What's more, it is just a stone's throw away from some fantastic Amsterdam apartments that you may be able to rent for your trip.
