Our great selection of Amsterdam apartments
will allow you not only to sightsee the city, but also to take part in many key
local events, such as IBC.
The IBC,
known by its full name as the International Broadcasting Convention, is an
annual trade event bringing together broadcasters, equipment manufacturers,
technical and professional associations, content providers and creators and all
those dealing more or less directly with the broadly-understood broadcasting
industry. This happening is Europe’s biggest show of this kind and is held in
September in the fantastic RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre – also the
biggest facility of this kind in Europe. With over 50,000 participants from
more than 160 countries, the event functions as an occasion of valuable
exchange of views and opinions, as well as an opportunity to get in touch with
the latest technology and services available in the business. This year it
takes place from 13 to 17 September, with the main conference (more on that
later) held from 12 to 17 September.
The essence
The core
idea of the IBC is to unite the leaders of the broadcasting market and to
create a professional, supportive business environment for making contacts,
discussing new concepts, sharing experience and promoting innovation. What’s in
it for a non-business-related visitor? Well, if you ever happen to get there,
you’ll have a one-off occasion to get to know the ropes of the industry from
the inside – and to see a bunch of stuff you won’t see anywhere else, including
technological novelties in the area of mobile televising, digital signage or
IPTV. Another emerging trend worth some special attention (filmmakers – this
concerns you in particular!) is the theme of digital cinema, which even earned
itself a separate show by the name of D-cinema.
Apart from
the labyrinth of stands with mind-boggling inventions, the event features also
a special point in its agenda – the IBC Conference, which covers all the hot
issues of today’s broadcasting and media world, including topics like Emerging
Markets, Big Data or the Future of the Broadcasting Industry. Register and
grant yourself an access to all the latest findings in the industry – straight
from the horse’s mouth, with the content delivered by top ‘thought-leaders’ in
the game.
Diversity of options
If you wish
to take active part in the event, you have to register first. If you do that
much in advance via IBC website (
www.ibc.org
), the entry will be free of charge;
visit the website to find out what option suits you best, as the organizers
provide the visitors with a range of different pass options, so that everyone
can adjust the extent of access to their own needs. Note that the Exhibition
pass is free until mid-August, so you better make up your mind and hurry up, as
time won’t wait!
Trivia
In 2012,
the IBC celebrated its 20th anniversary with an unusual item offered
to the delegates of the event – an ‘I amsterdam’ chocolate bar with a special
wrapper designed for the occasion, featuring a QR-code which led to a useful
database with information on how to get around the city. Is there anything like
this planned for this year’s edition? Nobody knows that yet, but the best way
to find out is to come here and see for yourself!
A red logo marks the spot
The IBC is held in the prominent building of the
RAI, in a picturesque neighborhood of contrasting business-centered
developments of the Zuidas district on one side and the stimulating greenery of
the lovely Beatrixpark on the other. The venue is really easy to reach – it is
located on Europaplein, within a walking distance from Asmterdam RAI
bus/tram/metro station. It is also only 10 minutes away from the international
airport of Schiphol, so making your way to the place should be really easy and
convenient. When on the spot, look for a red b-shaped logo, enter the premises
and enjoy the show!
